Abu Dhabi, Dec 31
The United Arab Emirates announced plans to pull its forces out of Yemen following renewed calls for withdrawal and a deadly Saudi strike that intensified scrutiny of the coalition’s role in the conflict.
Officials confirmed the phased draw down will begin in early 2026, marking a significant shift in the Saudi‑led coalition’s military posture. The decision comes after mounting criticism from international observers and humanitarian groups, who argue that continued foreign involvement has prolonged Yemen’s devastating war.
The Saudi strike, which reportedly caused civilian casualties, has further strained relations within the coalition and heightened calls for accountability. Analysts suggest the UAE’s move could reshape the balance of power on the ground, leaving Saudi Arabia more exposed as it pursues its military objectives.
Diplomatic sources indicate that Abu Dhabi will maintain limited advisory and counter terrorism operations, but the bulk of its combat forces are expected to depart. The announcement has sparked cautious optimism among aid agencies, who hope the withdrawal will ease humanitarian access in one of the world’s worst crises.
