Sony Lifts Forecast on Music and Imaging Surge

Demon Slayer Boom and Sensor Demand Drive Profits

TOKYO — Sony Group Corporation has raised its full-year profit outlook following a robust July–September quarter, where music streaming and imaging sensors led the charge. The company posted operating income of ¥429 billion ($2.78 billion), up 10% from the same period last year, while net income climbed 19.7% to ¥311.4 billion ($2.02 billion).

Sales rose 5% to ¥3.11 trillion ($20.17 billion), with executives citing strong demand for Sony’s music catalogue boosted by hits like Demon Slayer and continued growth in its image sensor business, which supplies components for smartphones and industrial devices.

Sony also trimmed its expected impact from U.S. trade tariffs, revising the estimated hit to ¥70 billion from ¥100 billion, thanks to a recent Japan-U.S. trade agreement.
The upbeat results come amid softness in gaming and consumer electronics, which Sony says were offset by recurring revenue streams and licensing gains in entertainment.
