Middle East Oil & LNG Vessels Reroute via Hormuz

May 25, 2026, 11:40 GMT

Several tankers carrying oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Middle East have successfully exited the Strait of Hormuz and are now enroute to Pakistan and China. The departures mark a cautious breakthrough amid weeks of U.S.–Iran tensions that left dozens of vessels stranded in Gulf waters. Shipping trackers confirm that at least three supertankers cleared the chokepoint under naval escort, signaling tentative progress in reopening one of the world’s most critical energy arteries.

Analysts note that while the movement eases immediate supply concerns for Asian buyers, the situation remains fragile: Iran has yet to formally lift its blockade threats, and Washington insists that sanctions enforcement continues. Energy traders reacted positively, with Brent crude dipping slightly below $94 per barrel, though volatility is expected as negotiations over a broader peace deal remain unresolved.
