Iran Accuses US of Stalling Hormuz–Oman Deal

August 5, 2026, 10:09 AM IST

Iran has accused the United States of obstructing progress on a proposed maritime security agreement with Oman, which is aimed at easing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. According to Tehran, Washington’s sanctions and continued pressure are undermining regional efforts to stabilize one of the world’s most critical shipping routes.

Oman has been playing the role of mediator, seeking to establish a framework that would reduce risks in the strategic waterway. However, Iranian officials insist that meaningful progress cannot be achieved unless the US lifts restrictions that they believe are directly hampering negotiations.
