Tsunami Alert: Kamchatka Quake

A powerful magnitude 8.7 earthquake struck 136km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula.

Tsunami Warnings Issued:

Japan: Waves up to 3 meters forecast along the east coast. Initial waves of 50cm recorded at Ishino maki Port.

US: Advisories for Alaska’s Aleutian Islands and much of the West Coast.

Other Regions: Alerts extended to Taiwan, the Philippines, Hawaii, and Mexico.

Public Response:

Hawaii: Residents evacuating coastal zones; traffic jams reported in Honolulu.

Mexico: Navy warns of strong currents from Baja California to Chiapas.

Philippines: Citizens advised to avoid beaches in affected provinces like Albay and Batanes.
