Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced final approval for a full-scale military operation to seize Gaza City, despite ongoing ceasefire negotiations. The move could displace nearly 1 million Palestinians and involves systematic demolitions of homes in the densely populated enclave.
Netanyahu stated that talks with Hamas will resume, but strictly on Israel’s terms. The proposed deal includes a 60-day ceasefire, release of 10 living hostages and 18 bodies from Gaza, and the freeing of 200 Palestinian prisoners. Analysts warn this dual-track approach, military escalation alongside diplomacy—amounts to coercive negotiation.
At least 43 Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes since dawn, including 13 civilians seeking aid. Gaza’s Health Ministry reports two more deaths from starvation, raising the total to 271, including 112 children. UNRWA warns that 90% of Gaza’s population is displaced, and further movement could deepen the humanitarian catastrophe.
Israel plans to call up 60,000 reservists and extend service for 20,000 more, signaling a prolonged campaign. Tanks have already encircled Gaza City, and thousands have fled in anticipation of the assault.
