Beijing has announced a landmark mission in which a Chinese astronaut will spend a full year in orbit, marking the country’s longest-ever human spaceflight. The mission, part of China’s ambitious Moon race program, is designed to test long-duration living conditions in space and strengthen preparations for future lunar bases.
Officials from the China Manned Space Agency highlighted that the extended stay will provide crucial data on astronaut health, psychological resilience, and spacecraft systems over prolonged periods. The mission also underscores China’s determination to match and eventually surpass U.S. and Russian capabilities in deep-space exploration.
Analysts view this as a strategic step in Beijing’s broader plan to establish a permanent lunar presence by the early 2030s, positioning China as a leading power in the new era of space competition.
