BJP-Congress Clash in Patna Over Abuse Allegations Against PM Modi

PATNA, Aug 29

Tensions erupted in Bihar’s capital as BJP and Congress workers clashed following a viral video allegedly showing abusive remarks directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a Congress rally in Darbhanga.

The controversy stems from the Voter Adhikar Yatra led by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. A local Congress leader, Mohammad Naushad, was caught on video using offensive language at Atarwel Chowk. Though Gandhi and Yadav had left the venue, the remarks triggered widespread outrage.

Legal Action & Arrests

  • FIRs were filed against Rahul Gandhi by BJP leaders at Patna’s Kotwali and Gandhi Maidan police stations.
  • Mohammad Rizvi, another accused, was arrested and is set to be produced in court.
  • The Bihar State Women Commission has demanded strict action against those responsible.

Political Fallout

BJP leaders condemned the incident as “politics at its lowest,” accusing Congress of poisoning democratic discourse. BJP Mahila Morcha staged protests, and party workers vowed to block Gandhi’s upcoming padyatra in Patna.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar both denounced the remarks, calling them “deplorable” and “shameful.” Congress distanced itself, with Naushad issuing an apology and suggesting the incident may have been provoked by “vested interests.”
