Governors Jay Inslee (WA), Kate Brown (OR), and Jerry Brown (CA) have joined forces to resist the Trump administration’s efforts to weaken environmental protections.
Their alliance emphasizes renewable energy, emissions caps, and pollution limits, rejecting federal moves to dismantle climate policies.
The governors condemned Trump’s plan to unravel the Obama-era Clean Power Plan, which restricts greenhouse gas emissions from coal-fired plants.
EPA head Scott Pruitt confirmed a new executive order is imminent to roll back these regulations.
Inslee warned of legal action: “If we have the legal right to prevent this government and this president from rolling back protections from pollution, we will exercise them”.
Brown added, “The impacts of climate change will touch every single one of us regardless of our borders.”
Inslee highlighted risks to salmon and orca populations, and cuts to low-income heating programs, as part of Trump’s proposed 31% EPA budget reduction.
