Cybersecurity researchers have uncovered what is being called the largest data breach in history, with 16 billion login credentials leaked to the dark web. The exposed data includes usernames and passwords from major platforms such as Apple, Google, Facebook, GitHub, Telegram, and even government services.
The breach, investigated by Cyber news and reported by Forbes, stems from 30 separate data dumps, each containing tens of millions to over 3.5 billion records. Experts warn this is not recycled data but fresh, weaponizable intelligence, likely harvested through infostealer malware.
Security analysts are urging users to:
Change passwords immediately
Enable multi-factor authentication
Use password managers and dark web monitoring tools
Google and the FBI have also issued alerts, emphasizing the urgency of replacing passwords with more secure passkeys and avoiding suspicious links in SMS messages.
