Stampede at Mansa Devi Temple Leaves Six Dead

On July 27, a crowd crush at the Mansa Devi Temple in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, claimed at least six lives and injured over 30 people.

A high-voltage electric wire reportedly snapped and fell onto a temple path, sparking panic among thousands of devotees.

One person was electrocuted.

Others died in the ensuing stampede as worshippers scrambled to escape.

Emergency services launched a rescue operation.

Injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Officials say the situation is now under control, but investigations are underway into crowd management failures.

Haridwar is a major pilgrimage site, especially during the Shravan month.

Similar stampedes have occurred recently in Odisha, Goa, and Prayagraj, underscoring systemic crowd safety issues.

Official Reaction:

  • Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami called the incident “extremely distressing” and confirmed ongoing monitoring and relief efforts.
