U.S.-Mexico Border Wall to Be Painted Black, A New Deterrent Strategy

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that the entire U.S.-Mexico border wall will be painted black, aiming to deter illegal crossings.

The move is said to be personally requested by President Trump, who believes the black paint will intensify heat absorption, making the wall “hot to the touch” and harder to climb.

Noem emphasized the wall’s physical features: tall, deeply embedded, and now heat-enhanced.

U.S. Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks added that the paint would also help prevent rust, extending the wall’s durability.

The announcement came during a press event in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, with Noem standing before the steel structure.

The initiative is part of Trump’s broader “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”, which includes funding for defense, deportations, and continued wall construction.

Critics question the effectiveness and symbolism of the black paint strategy. Supporters argue it’s a low-cost enhancement to an existing deterrent.
