Mediators Push for Gaza Ceasefire Amid Escalating Tensions

Qatar, Egypt, and the U.S. have put forward a new ceasefire proposal in Gaza, described as “serious and constructive.” Talks in Doha have set the stage for further negotiations in Cairo, with hopes of ending the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The proposal closely follows U.S. President Biden’s previous framework. While Israeli leaders signal interest, Hamas remains skeptical. Mediators warn that failure could ignite broader regional unrest, especially after high-profile assassinations linked to Hezbollah and Hamas figures.

Over 40,000 people have reportedly died in Gaza since October 7, according to the Hamas-run health ministry, while 111 hostages still remain. Previous deals have only brought temporary relief.

All sides are being urged to seize the moment before the window for peace closes again.
