Bail Granted:
A specialist neurosurgeon attached to Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital, previously remanded over bribery allegations, has been granted bail following a court hearing. The decision marks a turning point in a case that has drawn public attention since mid-June.
The neurosurgeon and a hospital clerk were arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on June 17, accused of selling medicines at inflated prices through a third party.
The suspects were initially denied bail and remanded until July 8, as per the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s ruling. The recent bail approval follows new arguments presented by the defense.
The case remains under investigation, with CIABOC continuing to examine financial records and third-party transactions. The suspects are expected to appear in court again later this month.
