Former US President Donald Trump has announced he will decide within two weeks whether the United States will take direct action in the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. The White House stated that Trump sees a “substantial chance” for negotiations with Tehran, but has not ruled out military involvement.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions following Israeli strikes on Iranian targets and Iran’s retaliatory missile barrage. Trump, currently attending the G7 summit, has cut his trip short to consult with his National Security Council. Reports also suggest he rejected a proposal from Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei.
Iran has warned that US involvement would “cause hell,” emphasizing that this is “not America’s war”.
